HR TrendsTuesday, June 2nd, 20092009 Resourcing Trends in BC
According to the latest report of BC’s Human Resources Management Association regarding staffing challenges in BC, organizations are both downsizing and focusing on improving work processes. In its second annual survey, findings show:
Meanwhile, overall organizational revenue will decrease slightly, although some 33% of respondents anticipate revenue growth. Looking for new and innovative ways to cut costs or maintain services is likely to be one of the major challenges for all organizations. We expect that Information Technology professionals will continue to play a significant role in making organizations more effective. If you are planning changes in your organizations or career, that involves I/T, please give us a call to discuss opportunities. Best wishes, Autumn 2008Tuesday, October 14th, 2008The leaves outside of my window are starting to change. This started making me ponder all of the wonderful, new and exciting things that can happen with change. With change, you must trust, and welcome the new with an open mind and with open arms.
September and October are the months of change. Everyone is back from holidays, budget cycles and planning for budgets have begun, taking stock of what has happened over the year. It seems that in the 21st century, change has become a constant occurrence; and it has seemingly been more of an organizational type of change. We have learned to closely examine our businesses; we now make changes at every level of the organization to achieve our business objectives. There is a constant topic of “Green” in our agenda which has delivered awareness for information technologies to facilitate this more “Green” way of thinking. All people, especially I/T professionals, should become more aware of this and be of a more business mind towards this reality. Starbucks is a good example of this. They stand for culture and their communities. They are socially responsible, balancing people, resources and their profits. With everything they do, they acknowledge the impact they have in regards to their community. And this is how most companies are changing, in ways of becoming more socially responsible. P3 Resources Ltd. is anticipating a variety of not only contract, but permanent roles this fall. Opportunities stretch from Senior or Intermediate Business Analysts, Project Managers, Programmers, and DBA’s, to Developers, QA Analysts and System Administrators. There are a number of companies who have already started major projects and some companies that are just winding down large projects. Either way, all clients need qualified team members. We are more eager than ever to work with new clients and will be embarking on change management projects as well this fall. Change isn’t slowing down any time soon, as January 1st, 2008 brought a whole new future to the professional world, as there is no more mandatory retirement in Canada. We can expect to see more leadership and mentoring opportunities sprout from this and we would like to see a great solution arise from this for former employees and companies and create more contract opportunities. In October, Pomponia Martinez will be teaching her master level HR courses once again. Also, be sure to watch out for Pomponia in the October issue of BC Business where she talks about her “quirky hobby”! Looks like fall will, once again, be flying on by. I look forward to what the winter months have in store of us here at P3 Resources Ltd.! Happy change, Julie The leaves outside of my window are starting to change. Happy Autumn and Happy Change, Julie< -->< --> BC HRMA’s 46th Annual Conference and Showcase ~ April 30th - May 2nd - MYSTERY DINNER!Thursday, May 1st, 2008BC HRMA Conference 2008
On April 30th, Pomponia and I attended the showcase for only a short while in the Vancouver Convention and Exhibition Centre before we were to meet in the lobby for the “Mystery Dinner”. After a little confusion as to which group we were supposed to be in, we soon found ourselves in Nichole’s group. Nichole is the Business Developer for Bernard Hodes Group and she is the chair for the marketing committee for this three day conference. I don’t think anyone can quite say enough about how great Nichole is. Her energy, togetherness and professionalism allotted a kind of exuberance around our perky group of six. All I can say is that I’m not surprised Nichole enjoys spa’s so much - she is most definitely one women I’ve met that certainly deserves entire days at the spa, going from all the work she does daily. We settled into our group for a short while meeting and introducing ourselves in the lobby before getting whisked away in a Yellow Cab - not having a clue on where we were going. To tell you the truth, I would have been happy going to Subway with having such fine and interesting business professionals as my company. To much of my surprise and my appetites appeal, we found the taxi taking us up Not only was the decor and ambiance relaxing just as much as it was beautiful, but to top it off, the service was on par with the scenery. The waiters were knowledgeable, courteous, friendly, with a touch of sullen French humor. At this point I’m thinking, “Can this get any better? #1 table full of interesting folk, beautiful restaurant and great service (which put my theory that the service industry is lacking in … I’ll get to the food in a second. Conversation flowed as titles, genders and ages dissolved - everyone was engaged in what I call “world class conversation”. Conversations consisting of everything between your most embarrassing HR moments, to personal hobbies, to current events, to personal thoughts on what the missing links in our industry today. Throughout the night there were people saying, “I’ve haven’t learned this much in one night in such a long time!” “I love this networking thing!” “I never expected this from you!” “This is so much fun!” I was bragging to Pomponia as we left that we MUST have had the best dinner crew. The funny, bright and inspiring personalities made a huge impression on me. People from Great Canadian Casinos, Accenture, the Association of Administrative and Professional Staff at UBC and even a student attended. I believe like fine chefs, we were all able to bring such special ingredients to the table. The blends of ethnic spices and saucy whims resulted in a five star meal that would have made the Iron Chef proud. It certainly made me feel proud to be in my HR field - and I walked away feeling inspired and motivated to do the best that I can at P3 Resources Ltd. We already can’t wait for next year! ~ Julie |
